Now through the summer, we're awarding 40 grants for $25,000 each (totaling $1,000,000!) delivered to local nonprofits providing invaluable services within the places we call home. Eight nonprofits, $108K! #TeamFirstInterstate and the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines Impact Fund spread the love in the Portland Metro area with eight grants to the following nonprofits to support affordable housing and community development. #BetterTogether - El Programa Hispano Católico in was gifted $14,000 to help them reach more than 20,000 individuals annually in the areas of Economic Sustainability, Education, Community Wellness and UNICA, our Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault prevention, intervention, and advocacy program. - Native American Youth and Family Center was awarded $10,000 to enhance the diverse strengths of tribal youth and families in partnership with the community through cultural identity and education. - Network for Oregon Affordable Housing was given $20,000 to help it strengthen communities through flexible financing, strategic partnerships, and creative solutions that expand and preserve affordable housing in Oregon. - New Avenues for Youth was gifted $10,000 to support its work on the prevention and intervention of youth homelessness. - Northwest Housing Alternatives was awarded $10,000.00 to further its mission to create opportunity through housing. NHA provides affordable housing options for families, seniors, and people with disabilities across Oregon. - Oregon Human Development Corporation was given $10,000 to help provide job training, housing assistance, and other resources across ten offices in Oregon, one in Nevada, and a central office in Gresham, Oregon. - Project Patchworks was awarded $14,000 to support its effort to piece together a community of support for those in recovery by providing housing, stability, and services. - Relay Resources was gifted $20,000 to support its mission cultivating meaningful work for people with disabilities. Eloy Firefighters Charities, of Eloy, Arizona, recently received a $25,000 gift as part of our third-annual #BelieveInLocal grant campaign. Battalion Chief Derrick Ethington said the funds will be used to keep local businesses and citizens safe from fire by providing protection through selfless service. This kind of community-minded action gets to the heart of #BetterTogether and earned grant nominations from #TeamFirstInterstate employees Martin Estrella from our Eloy branch and Gracey Lopez at our Chandler branch. Shout out to First Interstate employees Warren Bynoe, Josh Hurley, Jack Gertsen, and Zach Bohannon, who recently participated in Junior Achievement of Eastern Iowa's (JAEI) 5th Annual JA Stock Market Challenge, held at the Olympic Southside Theater in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The Stock Market Challenge is a technology-based simulation of the stock market in which every 60 seconds represents a day of trading. Beginning with a hypothetical account balance of $500,000, the stakes are high, and the competition is fierce. #TeamFirstInterstate placed third! We’d also like to recognize First Interstate employees Dave Parmley and Jim Miller, who serve on the JAEI board of directors, and Bart Floyd, part of the JAEI board of trustees. Member FDIC. For every community, a different need. #BelieveInLocal is supporting our neighbors in the ways that work for them with $1M in grants throughout Summer 2024! #TeamFirstInterstate recently visited Longmont, Colorado, to award $25,000 to Safe Shelter of St. Vrain Valley to help them provide safety, support, and resources to individuals affected by domestic and family violence, teen dating violence, elder abuse, and human trafficking. When we #BelieveInLocal, we look for opportunities to engage, empower, and encourage. That’s why #TeamFirstInterstate is pleased to present a $25,000 grant to Seattle Public Schools Kingmakers of Seattle. This elective program spanning six schools supports the cultural, historical, social, and emotional needs of young Black boys and teens as it relates to their identity. Kingmakers was nominated by Holly Taylor from our Seattle branch to support the program’s focus on culturally responsive instruction, welcoming and safe schools, and inclusive and authentic engagement. This nomination comes from #TeamFirstInterstate Deidre Dilbeck and Sydne Visser at our Billings Downtown location. Their request for funding was a real page-turner that had the selection committee weighing the prose and cons in favor of books for students grades K-5.
