AMES, Iowa (January 27, 2022) – Is starting a business a dream of yours? There are a few basic things you must know to start your own business. The Ames Chamber of Commerce, Iowa State University Pappajohn Center for Entrepreneurship and America's Small Business Development Center will be co-hosting a workshop that will take you through aspects of starting a business, including topics such as insurance, intellectual property, business organization, registration, and operations. Topics will be presented by local business professionals. Participants will also hear from local business owners about how to run a successful company, including tips and advice for would-be entrepreneurs. The workshop will be held at Iowa State University in the Gerdin Business Building, Room 1148, on Saturday, February 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This auditorium seats 299 people, so there is ample room for social distancing. Parking is free everywhere on campus on Saturday, and there is a parking deck across the street from the Gerdin Business Building. The workshop is available full day or in two half-day segments. Attendees may register for one or both sessions. Session 1 is scheduled from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and will include the topics Intellectual Property, Insurance for Small Business, Banking Basics, and Operating A Successful Business. Session 2, scheduled from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., will include the topics Ingredients for Success, Legal Aspects of Running a Business, Accounting for Small Business, Marketing Your Business, and Operating a Successful Business. Students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend. The workshop is free and open to the public; however, registration is required.
