April 27, 2022 (Ames, IA) The Ames Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the City of Ames, is pleased to announce and celebrate the donors whose contributions will bring the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center vision to life. The $31M facility will feature a zero-entry pool, warm water therapy pool, slides, a lazy river, lap lanes and will provide the opportunity for year-round recreation for residents and neighbors of Ames. “Our family are happy and fortune enough to be able to give back to the city where we lived and raised our children,” says Rich Fitch, a key donor and namesake of the facility. “We were disappointed when the bond issue did not pass for the Healthy Life Center and were excited when the opportunity rose to be involved with the new indoor aquatics center. We are honored to have it named after our family. This will be a tremendous asset for our city.” In addition to private donors like the Fitch family, several local businesses have made significant contributions to the project. “Fareway has served the Ames community for 84 years,” says Reynolds W. Cramer, CEO of Fareway. “Many of our corporate campus employees live in or around the Ames community. The Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center is a great quality of life project for Ames area residents, including our employees. We are proud to support it.” “Mary Greeley has provided care for the people of this community for more than a century, and our focus on community health goes well beyond our walls,” says Brian Dieter, President & CEO of Mary Greeley Medical Center. “We want people to have access to resources that promote active and healthy lifestyles. The new aquatic center will be a fantastic resource for people of all ages, and we are thrilled to support the project.” “Spearheading the fundraising for this project has been an extremely rewarding experience,” says Dan Culhane, President and CEO of the Ames Chamber of Commerce. “People in our community want to see Ames continue to thrive and are willing to make significant financial contributions to bring Ames is known for its vibrant culture and strong local economy. In addition to our employment opportunities and economic growth, quality-of-life amenities like the Fitch Family Indoor Aquatic Center strengthens our appeal to residents, visitors and prospective residents. Investments like these in our community are another reason Ames is the Smart Choice for people to live, work and play.” “Ames is blessed with many generous corporate and individual citizens who, over the years, have stepped forward to help make the City of Ames a great place to live and call home,” says Mayor John Haila, City of Ames. “On behalf of the Ames community, I want to express appreciation to those being recognized today for their generous contributions to the new Ames Indoor Aquatics Center."
