The Citizen Police Academy is an opportunity to learn and become more involved with your local police department. Participants will experience topics on crime scene investigations, drug investigations, use of force, OWI and many other areas. Classes take place each Thursday for eight weeks from 6 pm to 9pm (meals included). The spring session is usually held in January-March and the fall session is usually held in September-October. Our department is committed to strengthening its relationship with everyone we work with and serve. This really is a great way to learn how our department operates, meet our staff, and network with other community members. I would encourage you and anyone who has an interest in our department to attend. Please email Kurt Kruger, at kkruger@city.ames.ia.us for an application. Applications can be returned via email or dropped off in person at the Ames Police Department when completed. The Ames Police Department accepts applications on a rolling basis and will get you in the next class that works within your schedule.
