AMES, IA – Comedy, laughter and camaraderie are part of An Evening of Hope, Benefitting the William R. Bliss Cancer Center event to be held on October 6, at Prairie Moon Winery in Ames. Absent for two years due to the pandemic, the community event returns with a full program of cancer awareness, fundraising fun and entertainment provided by comedian Tracy DeGraaf. DeGraaf trained at The Second City in Chicago and uses comedy for more than getting laughs. She gives hope. A breast cancer survivor, DeGraaf will be performing her one-woman show “Life Happens Laugh Anyway.” Says DeGraaf, “Basically, I take the audience through the seasons of my life from getting married and having kids, to gaining weight and growing a beard.” An Evening of Hope, Benefitting the William R. Bliss Cancer Center is from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., starting with appetizers and cash bar, photo booth, raffle, and more. DeGraaf will be available for a meet and greet and will be signing autographs of her book, Laugh Anyway Mom. Program begins at 6:30pm. Tickets can be purchased at www.blisscancercenter.org/hope or by calling the Mary Greeley Foundation at 515.239.2147. All proceeds support the William R. Bliss Cancer Center. Gifts to the foundation for the Bliss Cancer Center support the programs and services of the center including the Cancer Navigation Program, a full-service boutique with complimentary wigs, psychological counseling, cancer genetic risk counseling, nutrition counseling, transportation assistance, patient education resources and more.
