Beautiful Land Plans Two Holiday Markets in December

The Prairie Moon Winery ballroom will be full of vintage and handmade items from more than two dozen vendors this weekend as Ames-based Beautiful Land gears up for its fifth annual holiday market.

Admission to the family-friendly market at 3801 W. 190th St. is free. It will be held 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday.

A ticketed, early-bird shopping event is 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday. Tickets are $18 for one or $30 for two. Aside from admission to the preview night, shoppers get a $5 drink ticket, a market bag and first-chance shopping for many one-of-a-kind products. There also will be live music and a variety of desserts from Mel’s Sweet Occasions.

“Our holiday events have become a beloved tradition for many central Iowans. We want to connect makers and creative entrepreneurs with their customers and create fun events that build community and foster collaborations,” said Andrew Kingsbury, co-owner of the market.

Products range from homemade syrups to pottery and from toffee to jewelry. Different vendors will set up each day.

Friendship Ark will host a hot chocolate bar on Sunday. The nonprofit organization provides residential and community support for central Iowans with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Visitors will have the opportunity to donate and meet local staff and core members from Friendship Ark.

Beautiful Land Market welcomes free-will donations during its events. Half of the proceeds will be donated to Friendship Ark.

“Beautiful Land Market promotes and is passionate about encouraging people to shop small and local, supporting the local economy and another important part of our mission is supporting local nonprofits,” said Jody Bergan Bennett, co-owner of the market.

Prairie Moon beverages will be available for purchase each day.

Tickets for preview night are available on the Beautiful Land Market website, www.beautifullandmarket.com. Tickets are limited. If any remain, they will be for sale at the door.

Beautiful Land to hold Merry & Bright Market in Nevada Dec. 10

The second annual Merry & Bright Market will be 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Dec. 10 at Gatherings, 1024 Sixth St., in Nevada.

The market coincides with the community’s Christmas on Main celebration, which will be 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. in Nevada’s Main Street District. The celebration will feature dozens of business open houses, horse-drawn sleigh rides and appearances by Santa, Mrs. Claus and other holiday characters.

“Attendees can expect over 25 one-of-a-kind vendors at each event, all selling high-quality handmade and vintage goods such as artwork, pottery, jewelry, repurposed goods, soaps, candles and more,” Bergan Bennett said.

Gatherings and Farm Grounds, the coffee shop next door, will have food and beverages available for purchase during the Merry & Bright Market.

It also will support a local nonprofit. The Nevada Kiwanis Club plans to host a booth at the market and hand out children's books.
