Batteries and tires are as essential today as they were in 1927. It is with these two items that our Theisen’s Home • Farm • Auto story begins. Theisen’s Battery & Electric, founded by Leo and Kathryn Theisen, was located on 8th Street in Dubuque, Iowa. Inside this small two-story brick building there were only 2 items for sale: batteries and tires. As needs changed, our selection expanded. By providing these essential items, the business was able to survive The Great Depression and World War II. In 1956 Leo and Kathryn’s son, Jim, joined the business. He was crucial in setting the foundation for the company’s growth by adding 7 more stores. Jim later assumed the role of President in 1979. His philosophy is, “People buy from People, not from Companies”. To this day, Jim Theisen is quick to remind associates and customers alike about this firm belief. Our commitment to exceptional customer service is something we strive for with every interaction. As our family business approaches its 100-year anniversary, you can be assured that we have not strayed from our values that have made us successful throughout our history.
